Imagine living in a community in which your only source of potable water is polluted by people seeking gold at every cost. And that is not all, you end up finding out that the very people who are destroying the environment have come down with diseases from their interaction with certain toxic chemicals. They hope for a different kind of life where their livelihood and source of income would not imply the death of others or God’s wonderful creation. How will this make you feel?

The community described above is Assin Fosu. Hope Ministries has responded to this urgent call to serve this community by proclaiming Christ and showing concern for their livelihood.

The problem is real and multi-faceted.  High levels of unemployment lead people to pursue illegal work that wreaks havoc on the environment.  The consequences of these illegal small scale mining operations negatively impact the very communities the workers dwell in.  The limited sources of freshwater quickly become polluted and this in turn leads to serious health issues for all members of the community. With inadequate health facilities, preventable and treatable health issues become life or death scenarios.

Our solutions are multi-faceted, too.  Church planting, health services, and vocational training done in the community with as much local influence and expertise as possible.
